At last year’s Summer Brand Camp, I had the privilege of co-presenting a session with Chris Ebbeler from Chili’s. I shared some data and insights from our Best Places to Work research at Quantum Workplace, and Chris shared some of the amazing stuff he and the Chili’s team have done to build an engaging culture for employees and customers.

One of the questions that has been nagging me since that session last year is why more restaurants don’t compete in best places to work programs in their communities. I’ve asked many industry leaders this question and received a plethora of responses. But, the most common is that that the playing field isn’t level. There is a perception that the way these contests are measured is tilted in favor of the more traditional workplace.

I’m not so sure. I think this industry creates some really engaging workplaces. Maybe the measurement instrument does need to change or evolve in order to capture it.
I’d like to know for sure.

Will you help me explore this idea? I’d like to offer you, as a member of the Black Box Intelligence (formerly TDn2K) and Summer Brand Camp community, the opportunity to do an employee engagement survey at up to two of your restaurant locations for free.

We will share a summary of the overall results at Brand Camp. In it, we’ll share insights about how the participating restaurants’ engagement compares to Best Places to Work and other insight trends we uncover.

    The Details:

  • If you choose to participate, you will receive full access to your employees’ survey responses in our reporting suite.
  • The survey is a web-based survey that you’ll distribute via a hyperlink to employees.
  • The survey can be completed on any web-enabled device.
  • Survey includes 27 questions for all employees.
  • It takes fewer than five minutes to complete.
  • Those in supervisory positions will be asked an additional 11 questions to provide further perspective.
  • Results shared at Brand Camp will be in aggregate form, no individual results will be shared.
  • Employee surveys will be collected May 4-22.

This survey isn’t a general best places to work survey; it has been specifically designed for the unique environment that exists in restaurants. It’s also been designed in a way that will allow us to compare the overall engagement findings with other types of workplaces we measure.

To participate, please email the following information to me at Jason@QuantumWorkplace.com before May 1:

  1. Restaurant/company name
  2. Restaurant address (or addresses if you’d like to survey two locations)
  3. Number of total employees who work at each participating restaurant location
  4. Contact person name (This will be the person who distributes the survey and receives the survey results)
  5. Contact phone number
  6. Contact email address

I look forward to working with you on this effort to gather meaningful data. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions or would like to learn more before deciding to participate.
